Episode 6 Redux

So yeah, it appears in my rushing to get the show out on time last week, something got off and things weren't as crisp as they should have been. A few people have remarked that the music was off, so I fixed it and it should be available (hopefully without any real problems) tomorrow sometime.
I also got the raw audio from chris tonight for episode 7. That should hopefully be out early thursday evening, provided I get everything I need done tomorrow.

That's all I've got for now, I'll post again soon!

We got our first voicemail!

I'm excited today. We got our first voicemail on our call in line. BTW, the number is 614-441-9983.

The caller was from Dallas Texas. He didn’t leave his name, but did ask for our opinion of a couple things, and had a question. I don’t want to give it away here though... If you are reading this caller, send us an email with your name so we can say your name on the show. We will be playing and responding to this voicemail in episode 8, which is likely to be recorded this Sunday, the 29th of October.

This whole this is just overwhelming to me. When CJ first proposed the idea of a podcast, I thought that the Star Wars podcast arena was pretty much filled. I'm glad I was wrong. We have been putting up some big numbers in the past month, and we keep heading towards the sky. And it is all credited to you, our listeners. We are so grateful that you chose to listen to us.
Thank you.

In the coming weeks and months, we hope to get more and more listener reaction, as it makes for great discussion. We want to hear all sides of a discussion. If you agree, or disagree, send us an email, or a voicemail, and let us know what you think.

As always, thanks for listening, and May the Force be with you.

Chris

Episode 7

Episode 7 was recorded last night, but with a very small amount of news and a few yawns at the end (everyone was really tired for one reason or another) - I'll try to cut them out in post. However, it did signal the triumphant return of Matt, who did his collecting segment WITHOUT his item present...but we let him slide since we kind of sprung it on him last minute.

Other than that, we discussed the general stuff, including my displeasure with the Hall of Fame 2007 voting and, finally, the return of our geek out moment featuring our feelings on the TV show HEROES!!! All this and more coming soon to a computer near you!!! (Just as soon as I get a nap after work, I'll start the editing process!).

Howya doin?

So yeah, I hope you all like episode 6 - it is up now, btw...I finished it thursday night at 12:35. I'vbe been running myself ragged this week what with the new job and all...I'm really just not used to waking up at 6 to leave for somewhere by 7. Truth be told, I'm used to going to bed at 8 am. We are planning on recording today (Sunday) so that I can have an extra day to work on the show, and hopefully not have to stay up past my bedtime on monday nights (meanig I can go to bed right after heroes!). This may also bode well for you guys, as the show may hit around weds or thurs instead of thursday night/friday morning.

Well, thats about it from me. I did want to mention, however, a tragedy that fell this week at Ohio State...I'm sure many of you hadn't heard about it, but I think it deserves some looking into. A student in the first dorm I ever lived in was cut in half while getting off of an elevator friday. Apparently he was exiting and the car began to move with him half in and half out. Now I have been quite the witness to h0w poorly the elevators in those dorms operate, from seeing people get arms caught in the doors, to people being stuck in them for literally hours in the middle of the night just waiting for someone to come and let them out. I know these things don't work, I know all about the problems with them, and how much it takes for OSU to get them checked and maintained....usually they just let them go and fix them just enough for them to work. While I know this was most likely a freak occurrance, I can't help but feel like OSU should be found completely accountable for the negligence with which they treat the elevators in their dorms. I can't imagine what the family of the student must be feeling right now, nor whomever found him or was in or near the elevator when this happened (including the Office Assisstants, who, I know from experience, sit right near where the elevator shafts are, and must have heard sounds that had to have sounded like their worst nightmares come to life). I do pray for them, however, that they may find some peace, wherever it may come from....and I ask you to do the same. While I do try to be compassionate, its not often that something strikes me this close to home (said as someone who rode those elevators daily thru my freshman year, and who worked at that desk for a few weeks at the end of 3 summers), and I just felt that I needed to say something on the matter.

Ok, I'm done. Hopefullly we will come into your homes and ipods later this week with the episode 7 that we record tomorrow!

And with great difficulty, comes....Episode V

So yeah, this one was truly, truly a labor of love. First, of course, was that Matt is gone, on his honeymoon. Alas, that meant there was one empty chair in Chris' office - and this hounded us the whole night (or maybe that was the vision of Claire from Heroes on the autopsy table without a chest...yeah, that may have been it).

Then we got our phone number for voicemails hooked up the day AFTER the podcast was recorded and sent to post (i.e. my apartment). Too late to really add it in, for a week, anyway, but at least we have one.

Then I spent all day putting this bad boy together, cutting the i's and deleting the t's. I don't know if I would put myself in a class with Ben Burtt yet, but I'm on my way (:-P). I finished editing around 12 am Thursday morning, which is ok in itself, but that's where the problems start. For some reason or another, I'm out of room on my computer. I remedy that by mixing down as an MP3 instead of Wav, but am left with a 150 meg MP3 file. So I delete that, and some other stuff, and try the Wav thing again. The first try: Foiled by (not the, but A) Blue Screen...apparently I need new display drivers. Problem fixed, try again...PERFECT!...or not. For some reason, the clip from Matt's wedding, which I added at the beginning, is cropping up throughout the Wave...amazingly enough, its doing so where the waveform shows the actual audio that was recorded - its showing what is supposed to be there, but playing weird remixes of the wedding. Fearing a re-edit, Chris comes over Thursday afternoon, and after 30 minutes of wondering WTF, we fix it by re-introducing the original source wave into the folder on my hard drive. That done, we mix down, compress, and place on whatever magical site Chris uses to get our stuff to the world. Done, finally.

Nope. That was 5:30. 10PM rolls around, still no Episode V on Itunes. Chris has to start speaking that magical computer language of his, and it finally pops up...to give him a message that it will take 57 minutes to download this episode. At this point, this is all conjecture, but I think he kicked his computer, and it downloaded in 4 minutes.

So now, enjoy, and let us know what you thought! Email, forums, blog/main page comments, and now VOICEMAIL!!!!!! (echo echo echo) I'll talk to you all later - it's been a long week of being unemployed...I start up again on Monday, and we'll see if this place is cooler than the last. I mean, hey, where else can I get a job based on an hour long interview where I, at points, discussed my alma matter AND Star Wars (as well as a little bit of that other Trilogy...with magical creatures named Elijah and Sean, and CGI Wirey little squirmy guy who looks like Nicole Ritchie).

Talk to you later!
~C.J.

P.S. - Don't you DARE forget to watch Heroes!!! :-) Have a nice day!

I am unemployed...no more...

Sorry for the touch of melodrama, but I felt that ripping off the Spiderman 2 line worked COMPLETELY in my favor. Yes, as stated, I finally GOT A JOB!!! Now I don’t feel like the bum sitting drunk on my couch with no income…or at least I will feel that way when I start working. My first day is on the 16th, so I have a whole lotta sitting around and doing nothing to catch up on this week and next. But let me be the first to tell you that this will not affect the podcast…for the first time in my life, I have a steady 8-5 job, so that should help us all in setting up a normal schedule for recording and releasing the cast (as well as watching Heroes!).

As Hiro said “I DID IT!!!”

Ok, I now release you to your regularly scheduled programming!

~ C.J.

I am a machine!!

Ok, not really, but I wanted to bring some attention to the fact that I pushed the new episode out in a day!!! While some of you may say, yeah that did sound rushed, I would like to direct you to the music within the podcast - not the intro or outro, cuz Chris did that before mixing. All the other music tracks, as well as the edit, were done in the space of hours…a great feat for me, since I don’t even know how to use the program that well…and only found out how to add music on Tuesday! Sorry, just very proud of myself for teaching me how to use a computer program. :-)

Anyway, we are in discussions on a schedule at the moment, more so than our loose, “will be updated whenever we feel like it” (Which honestly is whenever life lets us, as I could probably be happy recording every other day, and editing on the off days, but that’s just me). Hopefully we can settle everything and get things straightened around. If possible, we’d like to record 5 and get it out before we leave for Cleveland on Friday for Matt’s big day, but with everything going on, we may just postpone things til we get back. I’ll try to get a message from Matt before he heads to the great New England for some R+R (well, maybe not the first R, eh, Matt? ) :-).

Anyway, hope you like Episode 4…it was a pleasure to edit without worrying if I was going to, you know, destroy all humanity with a misplaced cut or paste. I liken the feeling to opening the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders. This time I felt much more at home doing the post, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

First Post

Welcome to the first blog post for the Imperial Holonet Radio podcast. This is where we will all sound off on various things, instead of our homepage, which we will reserve for podcast annoucements and such. So keep an eye out here for our ramblings soon!

P.S. Yes I know using a blogger iframe on a wordpress setup is not the smartest thing. But for now it will work, until I put a solution in place for good. Ask the great Doc Brown would say, "Please excuse the crudeness of this model, I didn't have time to make it to scale."
